The college has excellent art and design facilities, including spacious studios with impressive displays of student work. Our supportive teachers will encourage you to develop your own artistic style.

Outline

You will follow a varied programme which includes a whole range of 2D and 3D fine art, graphics and mixed media work including:
• Drawing
• Painting
• Sculpture
• Textiles and fashion
• Printmaking
• Computer graphics

Students will gain a good overview of the various aspects of art and design, as well as be encouraged to develop their own specialisms. Students will also learn employability skills. There is a specific photography pathway offered at the Walkden Sixth Form Centre for those particularly interested in this area.

Progression

Students go on to work in various art-related businesses such as galleries, museums, design studios, architects and fashion retailers. Higher Education opportunities include degrees in fine art, graphic design, advertising, textiles, fashion buying and photography.

Assessment

Your work is continuously assessed to
monitor the development of your artistic
skills, usually culminating in a final major
project and exhibition.

Enrichment

Activities can include:
• Art gallery and museum trips
• A trip to London, New York or Europe
• Life drawing classes
• Drawing and research trips
• Workshops at galleries and universities
