Outline

Students will be provided with training in the essential skills of visual communication and will have the opportunity to explore a range of forms of visual communication including illustration, print, typography, lens-based media, time based media and computer aided graphic design. Through this integrated approach, students will be provided with a foundation in the skills required for a range of careers in graphic design and related fields.

The course is assessed largely through practical work produced in response to time specific and industry-related briefs. Employer and client engagement will be a key feature of the course; students will develop portfolios in response to client and
agency briefs. At the end of the course students will set up their own professional exhibition.

Practical work is supported with study of art and design history and contemporary professional practice.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the year. There will be a focus on portfolio development and live project briefs, that mirror industry based scenarios and group work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a level 3 qualification in a relevant subject equivalent to 200 UCAS points (e.g. BTEC Extended Diploma MMP Profile) and level 2 qualifications in English and maths. Mature applicants will be considered on an individual basis. All candidates will be interviewed and expected to bring a portfolio of their work.
