Outline

By taking Graphic Design as an A level combined with other A-levels subjects you have a powerful tool for getting ahead within the creative design industry. During this exciting two year course you will practice a variety of design disciplines such as, Illustration, promotion, advertising, typography and branding – providing you with all the skills and knowledge you need to create a professional portfolio and progress on to gain a career within the creative industry.

 

In recent years students on this course have gone on to study degree courses in Graphic Design, Illustration, Advertising, Multimedia Design, Animation, Architecture and Fashion Styling at some of the best Universities in the country, including Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, University of the creative arts, Leeds University and Nottingham Trent.

AS Level

In level 1 of the A-level course students will practice skills in all areas of the graphic design field including Drawing, Photography, Print Making, Digital Image Making using Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, Collage, Typography workshops, Generating Ideas and Looking at the work of other artist/designers. Students will also complete a branding and promotion project where they will get the opportunity to develop a concept and identity for their own product.

A2 Level

In level 2 of the course students will negotiate with their tutor a project of personal interest enabling them to focus on an area of graphic design that has interested them the most. A2 also focuses on getting students prepared for university or the world of work by offering them assistance in putting together a high standard portfolio.

Progression

In recent years students on this course have gone on to study degree courses in Graphic Design, Illustration, Advertising, Multimedia Design, Animation, Computer  Architecture and Fashion Branding at some of the best Universities in the country, including Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, University of the creative arts, Leeds University and Nottingham Trent.

Assessment

The AS and A2 qualification is marked internally against criteria you will be made aware of at the start of the course. A subject specialist from the examination board externally moderates all of your work.
